ASTROTECH SUBSIDIARY ASTRAL IMAGES SELECTED BY A POST-PRODUCTION HOUSE FOR FILM RESTORATION

Austin, TX (January 19, 2016) -

Astral Images, a subsidiary of Astrotech (NASDAQ: ASTC), signed a contract with a worldwide technology leader in the media and entertainment sector to use Astral Color ICE as part of its workflow to restore film. Astral Color ICE™ was selected based on the quality and speed of its restoration technology.

“We believe servicing leading digital media and entertainment post-production houses and studios validates our technology.  We are providing our patented defect correction solution to help bring high quality restored film to the big 4K screen faster,” said Warren Lieberfarb, Chairman of Astral Images. “To date, film correction has been a time-consuming, labor-intensive and expensive process that limits which projects are completed. Astral Color ICE automates film restoration and improves image quality.

“There are many film treasures that audiences want to view on today’s high-definition video equipment.  We believe our results will impress viewers and extend our reach among entertainment companies,” concluded Lieberfarb.

Astral Images’ digital image correction and enhancement (ICE) uses sophisticated algorithms to identify and remove surface defects and scratches from film. Astral Images’ patented scratch removal technology, one of the features of Astral Color ICE, pulls the original information and produces a true correction instead of filling in the blemish using surrounding pixels. Fully automated, the solution removes the potential for human error common in the painting-over method.
