SPACEHAB QUADRUPLES NUMBER OF TEAM WALKERS AT THE 2004 WALK TO CURE DIABETES GULF COAST FUNDRAISER
Raises Record $6,500 For Diabetes Research
Many of Houston's Gulf Coast Area companies, their families, and friends spent last Sunday morning blazing a trail in benefit of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Participating for the sixth straight year, SPACEHAB, a premier provider of commercial space services, was led by Walk Team Captain, Linda Finkle , who gave new meaning to the phrase 'setting the bar high'. Not only did the SPACEHAB Walk Team bring in triple the amount raised for JDRF from previous years, but the number of registered walkers quadrupled from 2003.
All initial estimates indicate that the SPACEHAB 90-walker team brought in approximately $6,500 for the foundation, who for the first time announced this year that a cure for diabetes will be found. Also marking another SPACEHAB milestone was its first place prize for the company's unique t-shirt design, which creatively incorporated the JDRF 2004 'Follow the Yellow Brick Road to the Cure' walk theme. Fox News' Mike Barajas presented the winners with their framed awards after walkers filed in from the 3-mile trek through the University of Houston Clear Lake campus. On stage to accept the honor, Finkle, along side a few special members of the SPACEHAB family affected by Type 1 diabetes, thanked SPACEHAB leadership for their commitment to the event, and team walkers for their dedication and never-give-up attitude during this year's vital campaign.
